Excellent condition. Sole issue is a slight tear on the upper tight of the front cover dust jacket.
This book is a nice compilation of work including 3 recognizable photographic leaders in Larrain, Turbeville, and Volkmann. But it is the section by Mapplethorpe that gives it value. He was well into his career, and his fame and notoriety were peaking. Yet here he focused on female fashion, to wonderful effect.
It was said of Picasso that he could have painted in any style, like Reubens or Goya or Chinese fans [which he did emulate]. But he went his own path. Mapplethorpe could have chosen any photographic style, but he was rooted in an era and an aesthetic that he wanted to convey to the world. A fascinating talent, a fine book.
