This book is intended to be Gilt By Association. It displays many of the drawings of the Art Deco designer Erte [an elision in French of his initials R.T.]. He was a legitimately great designer across both the performance arts and the fine arts like jewelry making throughout the 20th century. He died aged 92 in 1990, the same year as this exhibit. The exhibit was sponsored by the Trump Organization in its Atlantic City casino heyday. The book has that organization’s characteristic low key understated approach. Garishness aside, it is a lovely compendium of Erte’s work across the decades.
One of the booksellers says the copy they have for sale has an authentic Erte signature inside. If so, he was alive as the book was being printed. Then he died.
Condition: Very Good to Excellent in all respects.
