Consignment Selling

Books & Fields is pleased to consider consignment selling in which stock from one store is shown in the other, and the proceeds are split between the two. The consignment opportunities cover both the physical display and the on-line marketing.

Duration

As it takes time for in-store and social media outreach to reach a wide band of customers, we prefer that the consignment duration be for at least 6 months, renewable by mutual agreement.

Selecting stock

We prefer that there be a visit to view the stock and select those that will be consigned. This permits a friendly discussion of terms, pricing, and logistics. Dealers at a distance that makes this impractical may call us and discuss options.

Exclusivity

If B&F consigns books to you, we will de-list them from our web-site, and of course will not have the physical tome. This ensures that the customer deals only with you and there cannot be any confusion over who is vending the book. B&F asks for the same consideration in return.

Pricing

Our experience is that books valued at less than $8 are poor candidates for consignment selling. The owner of the book can set the price. If sold, the net proceeds can be split 50% to each party.  Please contact us for more details on pricing and management issues.

Delivery

If the books are to be physically transferred, B&F is happy to deliver or pick them up for free if within a 100-mile radius of Perry, Rochester, or Buffalo. Distances beyond that may require cost-sharing.

Referral compensation/An alternative

You may not wish to take possession of the books and market them. You may, however, be able to describe them and motivate a customer to visit B&F and purchase them. If so, B&F is ready to offer a referral honorarium. Please contact us for further details.
