Locating Books for Collectors

The millions of books we do not have in stock are still accessible to you. Tell us what you are searching for and
we will locate it if it is for sale, both through our own efforts and through specialist dealers we are linked to.

Making your interests known

Once we know what you are looking for, we can help find it. The easiest way is to describe it in a message to us. You can use the 'Your Message to Us' link in the Contact Us page. You are also welcome to call and speak with us.

Our search services encompass both broad categories [eg local history; mountaineering and adventure] and specific wants [a particular book; first editions of an author].

Searching the stock of other dealers

Many dealers do not list all their stock on the major sites. We will look at those known to carry a large collection of the author or interest that you collect. We will visit their sites and even contact them for more information.

Mentoring you to become a more effective searcher on-line and off-line

Book searching is fun and has become quite democratic with the move on-line. We are happy to share what we know so you can become a skilled searcher. We will tutor you on which are the better sites and effective search strategies, among other items.

On-line searching

Our on-line searching first examines the major on-line marketing sites [Amazon, E-bay, Bookfinder and Abebooks]. We will look for the nearest matches to your needs and send you the results.

As stock shifts frequently in the book trade, we are happy to renew the search on a periodic basis.

Receive updates from Books and Fields

We can send you specific communications when we see books in your interest announced on other sites. We also encourage you to sign up for periodic updates on B&F’s new stock.

The cost of our dedicated searching service

The bulk of our book location effort is cost free. However, we must charge for dedicated searches for specialized books, authors, or highly specific themes. These require significant time by our skilled staff. The first half-hour will be free. It will cost $15 per hour thereafter.
