Selling your books

We are always willing to increase our stock of books for sale. Let us know if you are willing to sell some or all of your collection.
If you have specialized collections, we will help you find a dealer specialized in that subject.

Selling directly to Books & Fields

If your individual books or collections meet our customer interests, Books & Fields will be pleased to offer to buy them. You may opt for a cash price or a higher amount in store-credit that can be applied to books in our inventory.

Selling specialized collections

We are very interested to either buy or help you sell a collection of books on the same theme. While the market can be limited, the collectors are often willing to pay for unusual or large numbers of items. As special support, we will help develop a descriptive brochure, generate social media ads, and approach libraries and collectors directly.

Receiving a tax deduction for books you donate to charity or to libraries

You may consider donating books to a group that will make them available to those without access or that may sell them to finance their good works. Bless you for that. If you itemize your tax deductions, you may deduct the fair value of the donation. Books & Field is pleased to help you estimate that value, as charities or libraries are unlikely to risk offering an estimate.

Selling on consignment

For higher value books or where market interest is uncertain, we may offer to cooperate on a consignment basis. Books and Fields will list the book on-line and market it to potential buyers. If sold, the returns will be divided between you and the store. The advantage to you is the ability of B&F to offer a higher price.

Referring onward to specialized dealers

We understand the limits of our reach, and will help you exceed that. We can contact specialized dealers that are more likely to have the capital, complementary stock, and collector connections that will generate a quicker and more profitable sale for you.

Unsellable books

Sad as it seems, there are many books that cannot be sold. Damage and mildew are obvious reasons. Out-dated items like encyclopedias and text books are another. But a surprising reason is a glut on the market. Many books such as detective fiction or book club editions sold in such huge numbers that the value is depressed. We will honestly tell you when the market value is tiny or nil, which allows you to concentrate on those that will generate a return.
